Commemorative: Pio Valenzuela on 100,000 peso banknote

DR. PIO VALENZUELA ON BSP 100,000 PISO COMMEMORATIVE BANKNOTE

Turnover of 100,000 piso centennial commemorative banknote to Valenzuela City Museum from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, represented by BSP Corporate Affairs Deputy Director Jay Edward Amatong, held at the City Hall, November 29, 2018. The banknote was received by City Cultural Affairs and Tourism Development Office Head and City Museum Curator Jonathan C. Balsamo.

The 100,000-piso Centennial Commemorative Note - measuring 22cm by 33cm, is the biggest legal tender issued by the BSP, both interms of face value and dimension. Only 1,000 notes were issued on the occasion of the 1998 Philippine Centennial Year. Recorded as the biggest note during that time in the Guiness Book of World Records.

It features "Sigaw ng Himagsikan", a scene that brings to mind the struggle for independence and the cry of defiance against Spanish tyranny by Andres Bonifacio and his Katipunero on August 24, 1896. The banknote also features Dr. Pio Valenzuela recognizing his role as one of the leaders of revolution that gave birth to our nation.
