Photo: Dr. Pio Valenzuela with historians (1950s)

1950s. Serrano ng UP.

"Yes, I was already with the History Department when the photo was taken. Prof. Fabella was not the head of the Department; but was the Director of UP Extension in Clark Air Base. The head of the Department then was Prof. Nicholas Zafra who retired in 1959./ If I recall, when the PHA visited Dr. Pio Valenzuela at that time, it was to greet him on his birthday and to interview him on his role in the KKK. Prof. Fabella and Prof. Serrano (the guy on my right and lecturer in the History Department), asked him specifically about his trip to Dapitan to see Dr. Jose Rizal. His answer was and still is found in his published memoir. Even at that age when we visited him, he still had a vivid recollection of the KKK and its role in the Philippine Revolution. And it amazed me no end!/
